Happy Holidays!
Our Winter Break is here!! I have had the best time this month with our sweet first graders. I am so looking forward to a great 2015! Thank you parents for making this school year a huge success so far! When our students come back in 2015 we will begin our Reading 3D middle of the year testing. Please make sure to practice all of those sight word, reading skills, and comprehension questions. Also, please make sure you are reading each night!! I have attached a link below for a Winter Break Practice Pack. This would be perfect to work on over break! Let me know if you have any questions. I can't wait to see you all in 2015. Have a WONDERFUL holiday break! :)

Snowmen at Christmas
What a great week back from break! I hope you all enjoyed some relaxing time off. We have our next break in just two weeks! I can't believe it!! We have been hard at work learning about long vowels and that sneaky silent e! We are also reading holiday themed books and practicing our comprehension skills. During Social Studies we are traveling the world and learning about different countries around the world! The kids really love this (and me too)!!!

I'm Thankful Ya'll! :)
It's almost Thanksgiving break!! We have had the best time learning all about Thanksgiving and turkeys in 1st grade. I think our favorite fiction story we read was The Great Turkey Race. We made the cutest retelling turkeys to make our learning exciting. Students had to retell the beginning, middle, and end of the story on their racing turkeys. Take a peek below to see how precious the turned out! I want to also thank all of you who came out for parent/teacher conferences. Thank you for being so involved!

November already??
Happy November!!
I hope everyone had a great Halloween! We had a busy week with benchmarks. I love love love how hard the students worked to do their best! It was also a fun week in reading. We read a lot of Halloween stories and worked on monster narrative writings. They turned out so cute. The students were given a pair of googly eyes and then asked to create and describe their own monsters. I will hang those up tomorrow and take pictures.
On Friday I sent home our conference sheet sign ups. Please sign up for a time and send back asap! We will also be going on our field trip to the Gallberry Corn Maze this Friday. If you have not done so already please send back your form and money.
I hope everyone is doing well and I hope to hear back soon about conference sign ups! Thanks for all you do! :)

Pets in the classroom!
Our classroom was given a grant from PetSmart to have a fish tank in our room. We got this a few weeks back. I wanted to share our friends with you! Please meet Cotton Candy, Candy Corn, and Spotty. We loved reading all about our fish, how to take care of them, and some fiction stories about pets. What a fun and engaging thing for our classroom!
Bats!
Last week we were hard at work in writing. We researched, gathered facts, and read all about bats! We also compared fiction and non-fiction stories relating to bats. Here are some examples of our awesome work!

Happy Fall Ya'll!
Happy 1st day of Fall!!
Wow! I can't believe September is almost over. This school year is flying by already! We have been hard at work in reading. We have been learning all about short vowel sounds, nouns and verbs, narrative writing, push and pull, and so much more! This week we are working on syllables and double consonant blends (-ll,-ss,-ff,-ck,) in reading.
Progress reports will be going home this Friday. Make sure to take a look at those and call or email if you have any questions or concerns!
I am also sending home parent letters this week to have you sign in to our classroom dojo account. This is another way to track your child's behavior and progress at school. If you would like to be a part of this please send back the signed form. :)
Don't forget our Title 1 Bingo night Thursday! Have a great week. :)

1st Teacher Day
Wow! Today was the first teacher day back and we sure are busy trying to get everything ready for the #BestYearEver!!!
I made the cutest B.E.E. binder covers the other night and I think they are perfect! B.E.E. stands for your Bring Everything Everyday binder. This is what I will send home with the students daily to keep up with their behavior, notes, papers, homework, etc.! I think this will really be great for our students.

Tonight I also put together a little handout to send home with our parents on back to school night. This will just give a quick overview of some important information. *Thanks Mrs. Williams and Ms. Baver!
